KHUJAND, February 10, 2012, Asia-Plus - Authorities of the northern city of Chkalovsk have put elderly people who do not have relatives to support up in the “Khujand” Hotel because of cold weather in the area, the hotel employees told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon.
According to them, local social protection department applied to the hotel on February 4 with solicitation to shelter nine lonely elderly people, primarily women.
“Five elderly women will live in the hotel until spring,” the source said, noting that the women get three meals a day. Several local entrepreneurs are providing them with food products.
As soon as the weather becomes warmer, the women will return to their apartments.
