DUSHANBE, May 30, 2013, Asia-Plus – One more member of the Initiative Group for formation of a “New Tajikistan” party has reportedly received a threat on her life.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that known Tajik journalist, Ms. Mavjouda Sohibnazarova, who is one of members of the Initiative Group for formation of the “New Tajikistan” party, has received text messages on her Facebook page with a threat on her life and lives of her husband and children.  They reportedly demand that she leave the Initiative Group.

According to her, she was summoned to the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in Dushanbe’s Sino district on May 28 for questioning.  They asked her about her participation in the Initiative Group for formation of the “New Tajikistan” party.

We will recall that members of the Initiative Group said that Zayd Saidov had also received a text message on his mobile phone with a threat on his life.

Zayd Saidov, the leader of Tajikistan''s unregistered New Tajikistan party, was detained on May 19 on charges of corruption.  He has been stripped of his parliamentary immunity.

On May 22, a court in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district issued the arrest warrant for Zayd Saidov.  He was ordered held in pretrial detention for up to two months.  The court also ruled that Zayd Saidov cannot be released on bail.

Saidov denies any wrongdoing and says his case is politically motivated.  He reportedly said during the court hearing on May 22 that he is being persecuted for his decision last month to set up his new political party.
