U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply reduced the timeline given to Russia to halt its military actions in Ukraine, now setting a deadline of just 10 to 12 days—down from the previously announced 50 days.  Trump made the statement during a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland on July 28, says the BBC’s Russian Service.

“I’m very disappointed in President Vladimir Putin,” Trump said, adding that he is “no longer interested in talking.”

When asked about the possibility of meeting Putin in person, Trump noted that he has had several conversations with the Russian leader, but they have yielded no progress—attacks on Ukraine have continued.  He previously warned that failure to reach a peace agreement within 50 days would trigger "very harsh tariffs" on countries maintaining trade relations with Russia.

Now, that window has been significantly shortened.

“I think now it’s going to be 10 to 12 days from today,” Trump emphasized.

The announcement drew a quick response from Ukrainian presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak, who thanked Trump for his “tough stance and clear message of peace through strength.”

The Kremlin has yet to comment.  However, Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov earlier stated that no meeting between Trump and Putin is currently in the works, though it could happen if the two leaders are in the same city.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has offered to host such a summit in Istanbul. The two leaders spoke by phone earlier in July, but Trump was reportedly dissatisfied with the conversation and questioned Russia’s commitment to ending the war.

Earlier this month, Trump issued his first direct warning to Moscow, threatening to impose 100% tariffs on imports from any country trading with Russia if the conflict continues past the 50-day mark.  He also pledged to send Ukraine billions of dollars in military aid through NATO, which, he said, would ensure the equipment reaches “where it is needed most.”
